I saw a good sale at a local Micheal's store for dollar ribbons with cute and colorful designs. It prompted me to start digging. I had to stop myself from buying all of them and settled with these 2 cute designs that I can give to Cyrille to be creative with.

I previously got these glue from a local Dollar Tree store. It was such a good buy 3 for a dollar. I like these glue because they are easy to hold and squeeze for Cyrille. It gives her control of the glue, keeps it from going all over the place. It also works on her motor skills.

I like to give Cyrille simple tasks that she can do on her own. I allow her to come up with things to do from what she has. This gives her a sense of independence and accomplishment. At her level and age, I want to let her enjoy what she does without breaking the bank.

A game of Tic-Tac-Toe

I got this Tic Tac Toe game from a local Dollar Tree store. Perfect for our Kids Dollar Stuff. This game is a great way to teach the little ones about matching and patterns. Its very easy to use since you only have to flip the yellow cubes to an O or X. To start off, I flipped all the cubes to the yellow blank then I asked Cyrille to pick out which symbol she wanted to have. Making the kids pick out what they want gives them the sense of ownership. I then showed her the simple pattern of 3 in a row to win the game, horizontal or vertical. This game will develop her coordination and in time will teach her to apply logic and develop play strategies. It's a great game to play and this travel game is very small to take with the family on trips. The best part is that it's only a dollar in case it gets lost.

Pinkalicious by Victoria Kann
Pinkalicious is a great book by Victoria Kann. Read here where the inspiration from the author came from. http://www.thinkpinkalicious.com/victoria

Her stories and pictures so are cute. It will keep your little ones engaged. Cyrille was so excited as soon as she saw the book and its cover. She screamed, this is like me!

I got this book from Amazon. Here is the link to the specific item. http://www.amazon.com/Pinkalicious-Pinkamazing-Collection-Victoria-Kann/dp/0062188003/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1436462365&sr=8-1&keywords=pinkalicious+amazing+storybook+collection

Since I was on a budget, I got the book from the Used Section.
There are different categories in this section. Used-Like New, Used-Very Good, Used-Good and Used-Acceptable. I usually start off the Used-Like New then depending on price go down to Used-Good comparing it to the price of a new one. On this particular one, I picked out Used-Like new. Final Price came out to be $7.04 with shipping. Amazon gives you a good description of what condition to expect in each category.

Since there are 6 stories in a book, each story still came out to be within my budget of the dollar range for a book with shipping. Cyrille can relate to each story just from the titles. Flipping through the pages, she can use her imagination and the art of storytelling to switch out the characters to herself and her friends.

We started reading this story as soon as we got it last night. Cyrille switched out the main character as herself and the names of her closest friends as her playmates on a play date. We had so much fun creating side stories out of the main story. I encourage her to be playful with each character and make it her own.

I like books that encourage her to use her words and imagination and this book is definitely a must buy.

Hitting the Dollar Spot with Target

PictureHere is Cyrille having her picture taken with Bullseye.
This past weekend, we decided to take a trip to Target to buy some household supplies. And a trip to Target would never be complete without going to the $1, $2, $3 section.

And I wanted to share my dollar finds.

Picture

Workbooks
Target has tons of quality workbooks for the little ones for $1.00 in different areas . Some of them even have reward stickers inside to keep the kids motivated. They range from Pre-k workbooks all the way up to the higher grades.

Beginning Sounds Workbook Pre K-K
Cyrille working on her book. A tip to help our beginning writers, is to write their name in a yellow highlighter. Asking them to trace it teaches them how to write their name. Make it a habit to have them trace their name on each page they work on. As time goes by, they will remember the strokes of writing their name by themselves.

Cyrille loves matching stuff. Here she is focused on her workbooks. Its a great way to teach letters and words. I always say repeat after me.

Flash Cards
Doing Flash Cards with the little ones are a great way to pass time. Even if you get to do 10 cards at a time, the knowledge the little ones get out of it makes it worth it. And for $1.00, you won't feel bad losing them.
I try to allot 5-10 minutes a day doing these flash cards. I take advantage of the time I can hold her attention to it.

Princess Writing Supplies
If you have little girls, you can attest that everything is about Princess.

When I ask Cyrille, what do you want to be when you grow up? Cyrille says I want to be a princess. And I say but being a princess is not a job. And she's like, at Disneyland it's a job. Smart huh?

She loves anything princess, and these writing supplies are just perfect for her princess needs.

A Trip to Daiso

Daiso is one of those places that you will never come out with just what you came to the store for.
If you have never been to Daiso, it's an asian version of the dollar store but cuter and much more expensive at $1.50.
But here you will find lots of stuff for art projects.
Drawing pads and colored paper in stores like Staples or even Wal-mart with be more than $1.50 each for more than 10 pages.
With Daiso, 44 pages of colored paper which can be folded to look like a card and decorated with stickers are cheap. Also is a 100 page drawing pad for those times Cyrille just wants to doodle on blank paper.
I also bought different designs of craft punch we can use to decorate or just to build motor skills on a construction paper to punch. Its comes in cute colors and different craft shapes.
Daiso is great for those times, when we need projects to keep the little ones busy.

DollarĀ Finds from Michaels

Who says you can only find dollar haul from the dollar store?
I enrolled Cyrille with the Kid's program at Michael's. For $2.00 a class, she gets to make art projects while I go around the store to shop. And these are my purchases for today.
For a dollar each, I got her a bunch of art projects to keep her busy over the summer.
Ceramic Butterfly with paint included. I have photographed the finished project she worked on today. It comes with a magnet in the back to showcase her work on the fridge. And that makes her proud.
I got 3 different wooden coloring character with markers already included in the package from Creatology. They come in different designs like animals and characters.
Kids always love stickers. But when they are expensive, I feel bad when it gets wasted. For a dollar, this jungle out there sticker book comes with 278 stickers for any kind of projects.
Whether its a dollar store or any other kind of store, I am always on the lookout for dollar or less kids stuff that is a great buy.

Hi! This blog is inspired by my daughter Cyrille. At 18 months, she was diagnosed with speech and developmental delay. She was enrolled in the early intervention program which helped her tremendously. Learning from her therapists and on a budget, I had to find cheap ways to help her improve. Now at 3.5 years old, we still have a long way to go. So whether its things to do, places to go, or anything that would be a conversation starter for us I am all for it. I just have to keep everything on a budget.
